Hi friends,
My thought process for the newsletter this week went like this:
I’ll skip this week because Thursday is a holiday for most readers (this Sober Lady has yet to break into the international Substack market), and people probably aren’t super online.
Then, in an unprecedented burst of energy, I decided that I would write something for this week, delusionally believing I am the type of person who can have houseguests and string together sentences at the same time. (In the interest of honesty, it’s a houseguest, but that makes this sound a little more pathetic, so...)
Today, reality hit. I feel pretty guilty about it, but I won’t be able to get a full newsletter together. But I do want to say a few things.
Thanksgiving is among my least favorite holidays, but I’m a big believer in the power of gratitude. In August, I put this Substack together on a whim. Without the encouragement of my writing group, Lauren Hough, my partner, and the aforementioned houseguest who shall remain nameless, Ask a Sober Lady would be an idea I had that I never followed through on because it felt arrogant to assume I had anything to offer that people couldn’t find somewhere else.
I am so grateful for their support because writing this newsletter is a joy beyond anything I could have predicted. While I hope it’s been helpful to you, the reader, engaging with you has been immensely helpful to me. Thank you so much to everyone who has written to me, subscribed, shared, or even read a single post. It means more to me than I can say, and I’m excited to keep it going in the New Year. I also hope to expand it to include interviews with interesting people and other fun things TBD. If you have suggestions for what you’d like to see, let me know. If there are people in your life who you think might be interested in this kind of recovery content, please share the newsletter with them.
In lieu of anything more insightful, here are a few shamelessly cute pictures of my animals—ridiculous goofballs who make me very happy to be a sober lady.

All the photos are better than old dry turkey meat any day.
This made me smile. What a beautiful gratitude note...and flipping cute animals!
