I loved reading both of your viewpoints. I was primarily into alcohol and pot. About the last third of my using were mainly alone. I didn’t notice being lonely until I got sober. I’ve received therapy in sobriety and had a dynamic counselor for most of those years. Again, I appreciate what each of you shared.
Fantastic conversation. The one word that jumped out: subterfuge. "I had to engage in subterfuge." Once Zach removed the subterfuge, the rest of life opened up and filled the brainspaces that had been taken up by subterfuge. And so, having a strong recovery identity isn't necessary because the hiding and sneakiness have been replaced by stronger, more positive characteristics.
Thanks for this, Katie. I always feel your writing is on point, and such interviews add and enhance your perspective.
Thanks, Dave!
