DARE Officer: A lot of kids take drugs because they want to fit in and be cool

Me: (nods to self, cool kids do drugs, got it)

Spot on. Thinking about addiction is just SO HARD! Let's go with a simpler way to convince ourselves we're doing something. It's a goddam step away from "thoughts and prayers" and just as useless.

As always, you make me think. Is any addiction a gateway to another addiction?

Katie MacBride's avatar

I think it depends on the person and their individual circumstances/genetics/physiology. I was a severe alcoholic and never had a desire to use other drugs (some weed, but nothing beyond that). Other people might hate drinking and gravitate to opioids. It depends on so many factors—rarely, if ever, just one.

I'm distressed, distraught, and I want to be what I need right now, a steady, pillar of faith and strength. Does the "literature" direct us to a solution for this post election moment, when "reasonable" citizens have fallen off the face of the Earth? And, for the "cherry" on top, I have the flu, ha ha.

Ha ha, on me. How easily I forget to "accept" the help I asked for. Thank you, Katie for being here, today ♥
