Loved this. As someone who has a penchant for canned cocktails (So easy! So pretty!) I honestly see that it might be A Problem for me, but that's a different and developing story. Thanks for sharing this.
People stopped inviting me over years ago, mostly due to my drinking. Some instances, it was a couples thing, now, it's a sober thing. But I'm okay with it. I fly solo and sober 🖤
This made me smile: “If I’d wanted to drink in secret, the opportunity was offered on a silver bar cart.” It’s unlikely you would’ve been drinking “in secret” for long. You likely would’ve gotten loud, stumbled around, tripped, fallen, vomited, or done all the other things that make drunks such pleasant company. So glad you’re sober. I love reading your work. And I thought I was the only one who perused books and played with pets at parties instead of chatting with humans. That detail made me smile, too.
Great share! I also occasionally have these thoughts when I see all those pretty fun cans of cocktails that were not around in my days and I sometimes feel actually angrily jealous that I’ll never get to try them! Like truly I get mad that they were not invented yet “for me.” 😵💫 Then in the next breathe I’m thinking…..thank God none of this stuff was around… if it’s possible for things to have been worse then they would have been worse with endless cute graphic canned cocktails to add to my daily drinking repertoire. Oh the insanity.
Sometimes it can be liberating to remember that not every thought we have is true and needs an action. Love this post, thanks for sharing!
It is so difficult! My thoughts can sound so authoritative, half the time I’m like “yeah, I guess that must be right”
Oh brain, you're such a hoot. If I didn't need you to help me get my shoes on, some days I want to take you out in the woods and leave you there.
